OSRS Barrows Guide

The Barrows minigame OSRS allows you to fight six powerful Undead Brothers for valuable rewards in the Old School RuneScape game. Barrows is an essential money-making method for mid-to-high-level players, providing unique gear such as Barrows armor. This Barrows guide will cover everything from the Barrows OSRS requirements, Barrows teleport OSRS options, and the best Barrows setup OSRS for the most efficient game experience.

There Are Six Barrow Brothers in Total

Requirements for Barrows

The Barrows are spirits of once-living Saradominist warriors who sold their souls for power. This deal backfired, forcing them into undeath. The Barrows OSRS minigame is a popular method for OSRS players to obtain valuable loot, such as Barrows armor OSRS.

Before kicking off on a Barrows Brothers run, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Combat Level must be 70 or even higher to defeat all six Barrow brothers.
  • To be able to use Protection Prayers, which will help you to reduce damage from Barrows, your Prayer Level should be at least 43.
  • The Magic Level needs to be 50 to perform teleport spells. This skill will allow you to appear just next to the entrance to the Barrows crypts.
  • Rune Pouch, a useful item to store up to 16,000 of three essential types of runes, which will help save your inventory space.
  • Food and Potions, which are essential for your quick recovery and skill boost, should include Sharks, Prayer Potions, and Super Restores.
  • Completing the Priest in Peril quest is required to access Morytania, where to access Barrows in Runescape.

There are also optional but recommended requirements that we included in our Barrows OSRS guide:

  • To obtain higher damage per second, your Attack and Strength should be at least an 80 level.
  • If your Magic level is 75 and higher, it will allow you to use Trident of the Swamp staff or higher-tier spellbooks.
  • Defeating Barrows RS will provide you with valuable loot, but to equip some of it, like Dharok’s or Torag’s tanky Barrows armour, your Defense level needs to be at least 70.
  • There are a few ways to get to the Undead Brothers. If you decide to dig straight to their crypts, you need to start a miniquest, His Faithful Servants.

To maximize your game performance, you should also have decent experience in handling prayer flicking, gear switching, and resource management.

How to Get to the Barrows

Center of Mort'ton of Morytania

The Undead Brothers are located in Mort'ton of Morytania, south of the Mort Myre Swamp. This town is populated with other undead creatures besides Barrows, for example, the afflicted and shades. The Barrows Runescape can be found at the east of Mort'ton, and there are multiple ways to reach it. Depending on your quest progression and teleport availability, some methods may be faster or more convenient than others. Picking the right one can significantly impact your overall efficiency and time spent per run. Below are the most effective ways to reach the Barrows:

  • Ectophial Teleport. This is a quick access to via a fountain Ectofuntus, after which you need to take a short walk south. This is a great method for those who frequently train in Prayer skills at the Ectofuntus.
  • Barrows Fairy Ring Code (BKR). For this one, you will have to use the Fairy Ring network and then travel east. This method is free and convenient but requires the completion of Fairy Tale Part II - Cure a Queen to access Fairy Rings.
  • Mort'ton Minigame Teleport. This Barrows strategy requires the completion of the Shades of Mort'ton quest. It’s a useful method if you frequently participate in the minigame.
  • Morytania Legs 3/4. This approach is based on direct teleportation to Burgh de Rott, an unpopulated town on the southwestern coast of Morytania. You may prefer this one if you have already completed the Morytania Diary tasks, as it offers unlimited teleports.
  • Barrows Teleport Tablet. This magic spell will directly teleport you to the Barrows entrance. It can be obtained from the Grand Exchange or made via the Arceuus Spellbook, which requires a 83 Magic level.
  • Drakan’s Medallion: Provided after A Taste of Hope, offering free teleports. This is one of the best methods due to its unlimited uses and direct access.

A well-prepared inventory and teleportation setup can help minimize time spent traveling and maximize time spent fighting the Barrows Brothers.

Gear Setup for Barrows

This is How Your Magic Barrows Equipement May Look Like

Selecting the right gear is crucial for your success in defeating the Undead Brothers and getting valuable loot. Based on different combat styles, this Barrows guide will provide you with the most optimal Barrow sets:

Magic Setup

This Barrows equipment OSRS is the most recommended one as it provides high damage output and effective sustain through Blood Barrage or Blood Blitz spells. The magic setup allows you to take the Barrows Brothers down quickly, particularly those weak to magic attacks like Karil and Dharok. It is also highly effective in conserving supplies, as healing through Ancient Magicks can reduce reliance on food.

  • Weapon. Trident of the Swamp or Trident of the Seas allow consistent, high damage without requiring ammunition.
  • Armor. You can wear Ahrim's Robetop, which will provide a magic damage bonus, or its budget-friendly alternative, Mystic Robes.
  • Shield. Book of Darkness or Mage's Book will offer magic attack bonuses, improving your accuracy.
  • Accessories. Occult Necklace (provides a 15% magic damage boost), Seers' Ring, God Cape for additional magic accuracy.
  • Ammo. Rune Pouch with Blood, Chaos, and Death Runes are essential for casting spells effectively.
  • Additional Items. If you have access to Ancestral Robes or Tormented Bracelet, they can further boost your magic damage.

Melee Setup

Melee can be used effectively at Runescape Barrows, particularly when fighting Ahrim and Karil, who are weak to melee attacks. It is a viable alternative for players who prefer melee combat, but it requires more prayer and food management compared to magic setups.

  • Weapon. Abyssal Whip or Dragon Scimitar – The Abyssal Whip is an optimal choice due to its high accuracy and DPS.
  • Armor. Dharok's Set or Torag's Set – Dharok's is beneficial for players utilizing the low HP strategy, while Torag’s provides high defense.
  • Shield. Dragon Defender or Fire Cape – These help maximize strength and attack bonuses.
  • Accessories. Berserker Ring (imbued for extra strength), Amulet of Fury for increased melee stats.
  • Potion. Super Attack and Super Strength Potions – These boost melee damage output significantly.
  • Alternative Items. If possible, Inquisitor’s Armor can be used for additional crush damage when meleeing.

Ranged Setup

Ranged is another viable method for taking down the Barrows Brothers, especially Ahrim, who is weak to ranged attacks. Using ranged weapons allows for a safe combat approach while keeping a distance from enemies.

  • Weapon. Karil’s Crossbow or Blowpipe – Karil’s Crossbow provides consistent damage, while the Toxic Blowpipe is effective for quick attacks.
  • Armor. Karil’s Set or Void Knight Ranger Set – Karil’s provides defense while Void offers a damage boost.
  • Accessories. Archer’s Ring (imbued for extra ranged attack bonus), Amulet of Ranging.
  • Ammo. Bolt Racks for Karil’s Crossbow or Rune/Dragon Darts for Blowpipe.
  • Additional Items. If available, Pegasian Boots and Assembler Cape can further improve ranged accuracy and damage.

Each setup has its strengths and weaknesses, but magic is the most efficient due to its effectiveness against the Barrows Brothers and its ability to conserve supplies.

Fighting the Barrows Brothers

Use Different Tactics to Defeat Each of the Barrows Brothers

Each Runescape Barrow Brother has unique abilities and weaknesses. Here’s how to counter them effectively:

  • Dharok the Wretched. Always use Protect from Melee. Keep your HP high, as his damage scales with his missing health. If your HP is low, consider using Blood Barrage to heal during the fight.
  • Verac the Defiled. This Barrow Brother can hit through a player, so it's better to bring extra food. He is particularly dangerous as he can land multiple consecutive hits through Protect from Melee, making him unpredictable. We recommend using a high-defense armor against him.
  • Karil the Tainted. Use Protect from Ranged and bring a magic Barrows set while fighting. Karil’s attacks can rapidly drain your agility, making running between brothers slower. If you rely on running to conserve prayer points, you need to be extra cautious with this Undead Brother.
  • Ahrim the Blighted. To defeat this brother, apply Protect from Magic and melee him down. Ahrim can lower your attack stats, which can be particularly troublesome for melee users. Consider bringing a Super Restore Potion to counteract stat drain.
  • Torag the Corrupted. To destroy this Undead Warrior, it’s important to use Protect from Melee. Torag’s attacks are not particularly threatening, but he has high defense, so be prepared for longer fights.
  • Guthan the Infested. Same as Torag; just keep prayer up. Guthan can heal himself based on the damage he deals, so taking him down quickly is key. We also recommend having high DPS setups to defeat this brother.

Some RuneScape Private Servers offer modified versions of these fights, providing an alternative experience. These servers sometimes increase the difficulty by giving the brothers additional mechanics or lowering the effectiveness of protection prayers.

Barrows Map OSRS and Order

Studying the Barrows map OSRS helps navigate crypts efficiently. The best Barrows order OSRS varies, but a common one is Dharok, Karil, Ahrim, Verac, Torag, and Guthan.

Strategy and Tactics

As with different ways to get to Barrows, there is also a variety of strategies that you can use to defeat them. Among the most effective ones are:

  • Use prayer sparingly, mainly for Dharok and Karil. Prayer Potions and Super Restores should be reserved for the more dangerous brothers to ensure you don't run out of prayer mid-run.
  • Set up Quick Prayers for Protect from Melee/Ranged. This allows you to react quickly when engaging a brother, preventing unnecessary damage.
  • The last brother will appear in the crypt maze, so be prepared for a fight. If it is Dharok, ensure your HP is high before looting the chest, as he can deal massive damage even through tanky gear.
  • Memorize the fastest routes to open the crypt doors. All Barrows runs involve navigating a maze; knowing the shortest routes will save time.
  • If you are running out of food too quickly, consider bringing a combination of food and prayer potions. For players using Ancient Magicks, Blood Barrage can provide sustain without needing excessive food.
  • Consider duo Barrows runs for faster loot collection.

RuneScape Private Servers sometimes adjust the difficulty and loot tables, so it’s better to adjust your strategies.

Maximizing Rewards

To increase your Barrows rewards OSRS as well as Barrows OSRS drop rate, stick to the tactics below:

  • Loot All Chests. Ensure you loot every Barrows chest after killing all six Barrows Brothers OSRS. The rewards scale with kill count and time spent in the crypts.
  • Use a Higher Kill Count. Kill extra monsters in the crypt for a chance at better loot. Killing 10+ crypt creatures increases the number of runes and potential bolt racks.
  • Use Barrows Teleport Tabs. They reduce travel time between runs, allowing you to maximize efficiency.
  • Check the Grand Exchange Prices. Some Barrows gear is worth more than others. Prioritize selling high-value Barrows items OSRS quickly to capitalize on market fluctuations.
  • Use a DPS Calculator. It helps optimize combat efficiency. This can be particularly useful for comparing different setups and deciding whether magic, melee, or ranged is most effective for your runs.
  • Bank Efficiently. Organize your inventory to minimize wasted time between runs. Having a preset gear loadout can speed up the process significantly.
  • Use a Loot Tracker Plugin. This helps track your earnings and maximize profit. The RuneLite plugin can provide insights into your overall GP per hour.
  • Consider Duo Barrows. Some players choose to run Barrows in pairs, where one player specializes in melee and the other in magic. This allows for quick clears and potentially faster loot collection.

During certain OSRS events, the Barrows drop rates for specific items might be boosted, leading to increased profits. The Barrows drop rate can be improved by killing additional crypt monsters to increase rune rewards, looting every Barrows chest to maximize profit, utilizing Barrows teleport tabs for efficiency, or using a DPS Calculator to optimize damage output.

Additional Tips and Tricks

Despite Their Name, the Barrows Gloves Are Not Part of The Barrows Minigame

Apart from the above-mentioned Barrows money making tactics, there are extra techniques that you can use to benefit from the game.

  • Consider Revenant Caves loot to fund your Barrows trips. PKing in the Revenant Caves or looting high-value Barrows drops can help sustain your supply costs.
  • Equip a Ring of Wealth for an increased chance of rare drops. While this doesn’t impact Barrows rewards directly, it can be useful when farming crypt monsters.
  • Take advantage of double-drop events when available. Occasionally, Jagex offers special promotions where loot drops are improved for a limited time.
  • Upgrade your Barrows equipment over time. If you’re consistently running Barrows, reinvesting in better Barrows sets OSRS like Ancestral Robes, Sanguinesti Staff, or Armadyl Crossbow can help increase your efficiency and GP per hour.
  • Master Prayer Flicking to extend your trips, reducing the need for frequent banking and prayer potion consumption.
  • If you’re using a teleportation method that passes through dangerous areas, like the Revenant Caves, be aware of potential player killers.
  • Instead of selling individual Barrows items, consider keeping them until you complete a set. Full Barrows sets can be sold for a premium at the Grand Exchange.

OSRS Low Level Barrows Guide

If you're lower level, focus on magic setups and prayer conservation. Avoid meleeing Dharok and Verac, as they pose significant risks. Prioritize killing Karil and Ahrim first.

Barrows Pet OSRS and Updates

Barrows pet OSRS is a rare reward from the Barrows chest. The Barrows update OSRS occasionally adjusts mechanics or drop rates, so always check the patch notes.

How to get Barrows Gloves

Besides getting rewards from defeating Barrows, you should pay attention to Barrows Gloves, which can’t be obtained from killing the six Barrows Brothers. They are one of the best gloves in the game, offering high offensive and defensive stats. If you're looking for the best Barrows Gloves guide OSRS, you'll need to focus on finishing the Recipe for Disaster quest. After completing it, you will be able to buy gloves from the Culinaromancer’s Chest for 130,000 coins.

Barrows remains one of the best PvM activities for mid-level players looking to earn GP and powerful gear. By following the strategies and gear setups outlined in this Barrows guide OSRS, you can efficiently farm Barrows for high-value loot while improving your combat skills in the game.
